One of my favourite machines in the kitchen is a dehydrator. It is so easy to use and the possibilities are endless! So what is a dehydrator and why should you use one? A dehydrator is a machine that removes the water out of foods at a very low temperature over a long period of time. The dehydration process removes moisture from the food so that bacteria, yeast and mold cannot grow. The added benefit of dehydrating food is that the process minimally effects the nutritional content of food. In fact, when using an in-home dehydration unit, 3%-5% of the nutritional content is lost compared to the canning method which looses 60%-80% of the nutritional content. Additionally, vitamins A and C, carbohydrates, fiber, potassium, magnesium, selenium and sodium are not altered or lost in the drying process. In the old days, food was dehydrated naturally in the sun to preserve it and it was than stored for long term use. The end result is a highly nutritious, essentially raw food that tastes great and can be stored long term. Here is a quick demonstration of how kale chips are made using a dehydrator.

This beetroot hummus is officially the best hummus we've ever tasted! Not only is it a striking colour, but it’s so flavourful and is a nice change from the usual chickpea hummus. Beets are packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals and unique plant derived antioxidants. These powerful nutrients help fight heart disease and certain cancers, especially colon cancer. Beets also act as detoxifiers on the liver, and have anti-inflammatory qualities.

This is a gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free recipe for the entire family to enjoy.
Coconut oil, which studies have shown can help our immune system fight viruses, is one of the ingredients that gives this cake a moist, rich texture. Sweetened with honey and a bit of vanilla stevia, this makes an excellent snack for the kids or a summer evening dessert with a cup of Iced herbal tea!
1 ¼ cups blanched almond flour
¼ cup cacao powder
¼ teaspoon celtic sea salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1/3 cup honey
¼ teaspoon vanilla stevia (or Vanilla sugar if Stevia is not available)
¾ cup zucchini, grated

This is a delicious and healthy snack for adults and kids alike! Its extremely easy to make and will become a favorite in your household. The Banana and Peanut butter combination (carbs and protein) helps to slow down sugar release in the bloodstream, making it a good choice for keeping your blood sugar balanced. Bananas are full of potassium, unsweetened organic peanut butter is a great source of healthy fats and protein and the dark chocolate a great source of antioxidants.
Organic peanut or almond butter for spreading (make sure its unsweetened)
Dark chocolate for dipping **
**If you're detoxing, please make sure the dark chocolate you use has no sugar or dairy in it. You can enjoy up to 2 pieces a day!

This is not even a recipe really but its such a great snack and the best part is that it takes 5mns tops to put together. It is amazingly healthy and will keep you full for a long time. Avocados are full of healthy Omega 3 fats that raise your good cholesterol and help reduce your bad cholesterol. Your body needs 2/3 servings of healthy fats a day and 30g of avocado makes up one serving. That's amazing when you compare it to oil where one teaspoon counts as a serving. I know which one I'd rather have!
1 slice of Gluten free bread toasted
30g avocado flesh mashed
Any vegetables of your choice (cherry tomatoes, baby lamb lettuce etc...)
