More and more dentists and doctors in the US are recommending the use of a Tongue Cleaner by adults and children alike. The tongue cleaner comes from the tradition of Ayurveda in India and has been used for centuries to maintain oral health.
Traditionally it looks like a U-shaped piece made from stainless steel, allthough you will be more likely to find plastic versions here and in the west. The tongue cleaner is very effective at removing bacteria from the mouth and helps fight cavities. It also prevents bad breath, especially for people who eat a lot of dairy and build up mucus in the mouth. It can also help reduce cravings by removing the taste of food you've previously eaten from your mouth, and it cleans your taste buds so you are better able to taste and enjoy your food. You use the tongue cleaner by scraping the surface of the tongue very lightly 2-3 times only. You should do this twice a day after brushing, and make sure you get your kids in the habit of doing this from a young age as it is very important for healthy teeth!
