USE: Calcium is a mineral that is an important part of building healthy bones and teeth. It not only reduces the risk of fractures as you get older, but may also protect against certain cancers. Calcium also aids muscle contraction and relaxation, nerve function and maintains cellular function in the brain and heart.
SOURCE: Contrary to what many people believe, dairy is NOT the only source of calcium. If you do consume dairy, a cup of yoghurt a day is a good source of Calcium. Many people however are choosing to go dairy free these days and other great sources of calcium include fish (with bones), tofu, sesame seeds, legumes, dark green leafy vegetables and broccoli.
